Please take the directions seriously.

This is not just a funny drill by one of those teachers who like to make class interesting because they have two cats and no life.

This is a very serious drill -- by one of those teachers who like to make class interesting because they have two cats and no life.

MAGIC DRILL INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Every sentence of every drill contains four words.

  2. You must write at least two of the four words in each sentence.

  3. Every word that you stroke must be clear enough to be correctly read.  Perfection is not necessary, but be tough when you grade your work.

That's it.  Those are the only rules for the Magic Drills. Write clearly at all times, and write at least two of the four words in each sentence.

By the way, those are also the only rules that you need to succeed at stenography.  If you can write good clean strokes, and if you always write at least two out of every four words in a drill, then you can pass any test.

Level 1Level 2Level 3
The words are generally easy.  Use this level to achieve a rhythm.  Do not push yourself too much. The words are generally easy, except for the last word in each sentence.  That word is harder. The words are generally easy, except that one of the four words is harder than the others.
Level 1 is both the training level and the final level.  At first, you will believe Level 1 to be the easiest, but it is not.  After you learn how to identify the hard words in Levels 2 and 3, come back to Level 1.  It is much harder to identify the hard words in Level 1 because all of them are relatively easy.Level 2 teaches you to stop punishing yourself by writing every word until you are forced to drop.
Instead, whenever you fall behind, just drop the last word in each sentence.
Level 3 teaches you to identify which word you should drop.

When you can identify and drop the hard word each and every time, then you should have no problems dropping when necessary on a test.
